Forest ThinningExiting Forest Premium Payments
Exiting Forest Premium Payments

Many farmers that planted forestry in the early 1990s are now nearing the end of the premiums payable by the Government.  While these premiums are the main incentive to promote private planting, the importance of a valuable commercial crop of timber is now becoming more apparent to the owners exiting the premium payments.  If forests are managed correctly, the tax-free revenue from timber sales will be more rewarding financially than the premiums and will ensure revenue in perpetuity from existing woodlands.
