The grants are designed to cover the costs of establishing a plantation. This grant is paid in two installments. Up to 75% of the full grant is payable after planting and the remaining 25% after four years, provided that the plantation is satisfactorily established.
The first installment grant is cost based and generally covers the cost of the following operations:

  • Ground preparation and drainage
  • Scrub clearance
  • Plants
  • Planting
  • Fertilisation
  • Vegetation control
  • Fencing
  • Fire protection
  • Mapping
  • Supervision and maintenance

The second instalment grant is normally paid after four years, provided the plantation is adequately established. Maintenance over the four years consists mainly of:

  • Replacement of failures, normally in the second year
  • Vegetation control
  • Subsequent fertilisation
  • Drainage upkeep
  • Fence repair
  • Formative shaping of broadleaves

Both farmers and non-farmers are eligible for these grants provided agricultural land is planted.
