The grants are designed to cover the costs of establishing a plantation. This grant is paid in two installments. Up to 75% of the full grant is payable after planting and the remaining 25% after four years, provided that the plantation is satisfactorily established.
The first installment grant is cost based and generally covers the cost of the following operations:
- Ground preparation and drainage
- Scrub clearance
- Plants
- Planting
- Fertilisation
- Vegetation control
- Fencing
- Fire protection
- Mapping
- Supervision and maintenance
The second instalment grant is normally paid after four years, provided the plantation is adequately established. Maintenance over the four years consists mainly of:
- Replacement of failures, normally in the second year
- Vegetation control
- Subsequent fertilisation
- Drainage upkeep
- Fence repair
- Formative shaping of broadleaves
Both farmers and non-farmers are eligible for these grants provided agricultural land is planted.
