Woodland Improvement Scheme
  • This scheme applies to areas of existing woodland which have the potential to be improved from a lower to a higher state of productivity
  • Grant aid is available to cover some of the costs involved including:
  • Clearing of invasive species such as laurel etc.
  • Felling of over mature, malformed trees
  • Enrichment planting of suitable species
  • Pruning to improve stem quality
  • Thinning or respacing to promote growth
  • Management of natural regeneration
  • Grant aid is paid to a maximum of €4,444 in 2 installments, 75% in year 1, 25% four years later.
  • There are no premiums associated with this scheme
  • The increased demand for wood energy means there is undoubted potential for this scheme.
