Woodland Improvement Scheme - This scheme applies to areas of existing woodland which have the potential to be improved from a lower to a higher state of productivity
- Grant aid is available to cover some of the costs involved including:
- Clearing of invasive species such as laurel etc.
- Felling of over mature, malformed trees
- Enrichment planting of suitable species
- Pruning to improve stem quality
- Thinning or respacing to promote growth
- Management of natural regeneration
- Grant aid is paid to a maximum of €4,444 in 2 installments, 75% in year 1, 25% four years later.
- There are no premiums associated with this scheme
- The increased demand for wood energy means there is undoubted potential for this scheme.
