Native Woodland Scheme

The Native woodland scheme is aimed at protecting and expanding Irelands native woodland resource and associated biodiversity.

Element 1 – Conservation:

Supports the protection and enhancement of existing native woodlands and where appropriate, the conversion of conifers forests to native woodlands. The scheme includes a conservation grant for all work carried out and also premiums for up to 7 years.

Element 2 – Establishment:

Establishment which provides funding for the establishment of new native woodlands on open greenfield sites through planting or natural regeneration. This includes the establishment grant, which covers all costs associated with planting, and premiums for 15 years.

The Native Woodland Establishment Grant & Premium Categories (GPC’s) 9 and 10 reflect the procedures and standards which applied under the former Native Woodland

Establishment Scheme, centred on the use of the Native Woodland Establishment Framework to identify the most appropriate native woodland type or types to establish on the site.
